The Girl

She was a girl yesterday
'who cried yesterday
at lies yesterday
and died yesterday
just inside
there was no funeral

she was so tall yesterday
gave her all yesterday
could not fall yesterday
only to find yesterday
that truth
is something never true

she was a doll yesterday
did it all yesterday
had a ball yesterday
but that's just all yesterday
It may have just been in her mind

Today she will scream
today she can't dream
today she's no teen
today she's been seen
human -
what she never thought she'd be

Today she's the pain
today she's the rain
today she's the sun
today she's the one
Proudly
wading through the world

She was a girl yesterday
today she's at play
lives her life just today
